Brahms: Piano Sonata No. 3 in F Minor Op 5
Brahms’s great Opus 5 piano sonata is suffused with a free romantic spirit and is on a massive scale, providing a real challenge for the virtuoso pianist. It is combined with one of Bach’s great partitas which are collections of dance movements of the day. Shostakovich paid homage to Bach in writing a set of preludes and fugues and thus the opening work of this programme sets the scene perfectly.
Our lunchtime recitals include established and emerging, prizewinning performers with sparkling programmes of music, specially selected for you to enjoy. Relax at lunchtime in the beautiful Northesk Parish Church, Musselburgh. A light lunch of soup and a sandwich is served in the Church Hall adjacent to the church.
Classical music is for everyone to enjoy, no previous knowledge is needed to enjoy our concerts. If you can't make it for lunch, you are welcome to book for the concert only.

This event will be held at Northesk Parish Church, North Bridge Street, Musselburgh EH21 6AG.
- Seating is unallocated.
- Interval refreshments are served in the church hall, adjacent to the church.
- There are 2 steps into the church with a ramp that can be placed over the steps.
- There are level access toilets inside the church hall, accessed by going out of the church and into the adjoining hall.
- Spaces for wheelchairs are at the side, front of the church.
- Accessible parking is across the road, with designated parking bays on Ladywell Way.
- Gracefield car park is behind The Brunton and there is also a car park on Ladywell Way.
